Sonia Solicari, Director of Museum of the Home comments, The Yard Sale is our annual festive market, bringing together designers, interior experts, creatives and retailers who we admire and who support our mission as a charity. It’s a vital fundraising event for the Museum; by attending, visitors aren’t just getting access to studio clear-out bargains and meticulously crafted items from local businesses—they’re directly contributing to the Museum’s charitable programmes, helping us continue our social engagement and outreach work which has a meaningful impact across culture and the arts, as well as our local community.
East London originated
Representing the creativity of East London, Tatty and Devine will return to the Museum of the Home’s Yard Sale this December, to exhibit their original and fun statement jewellery. Their DIY approach, with an anarchic streak and roots in punk, resonates with an industry and public hungry for something different to the commercialised, mass-produced, poor quality products on offer. The team love to collaborate with artists, designers, charitable institutions and cultural spaces, most recently partnering with World Book Day, Bowie, Frida Kahlo and Terrence Higgins Trust.
Tatty Devine comments, Museum of the Home is a joy to visit and to work with. We love helping raise money for the vital outreach and community programming they do, from creating bespoke product to taking part in the Yard sale where we will be surrounded with like-minded makers, collectors and innovators- our home from home!
Ethical makers
Meaning ‘friend of the people’, AARVEN is an ethical homeware and jewellery brand founded by two adventurers, inspired by artisans around the globe. From wood block printed textiles, recycled brass jewellery, to hand woven baskets, they design joyful collections of homeware and jewellery in collaboration with the world’s best artisans. Their authentic and handmade goods will be showcased at the Museum’s Yard Sale this December.
Sustainability conscious
Independent business Emma Stanton Jewellery hails from Hove, and her unique pieces are made using traditional techniques. Emma first developed an interest in making jewellery as a way of channeling the inspiration she found around her, on the beach and in the surrounding countryside and as a way of being able to make pieces that she knew would bring her joy to wear. She lives a stone’s throw from the beach and has used her environment as inspiration, taking images she finds in nature nearby including seaweed, razor clams and shells. 90% of metals used are recycled, with packaging that is both recycled and recyclable.
Allday Goods, who transform waste plastic into beautiful knives comment, Supporting Museum of the Home is an incredible opportunity for us to give back in a small way to the neighbourhood that we call our home, through the great work the Museum does to tackle social isolation as well as advocating for food equality and social activism. See you there!
