Mother’s Day at the Natural History Museum: Afternoon Tea with a Prehistoric Twist

Sip, Snack, and Celebrate Among Dinosaurs and Blossoming Gardens

Looking for a Mother’s Day treat that’s a little more iconic than a last-minute bunch of flowers? The Natural History Museum has something special in store. This year, the museum’s Garden Kitchen is serving up an afternoon tea experience inspired by nature, British produce, and—yes—dinosaurs. Because why not celebrate the women in your life with a scone and a side of prehistoric charm?

Afternoon Tea at the Natural History Museum: A Feast Inspired by Nature

Nothing says “I appreciate you” like an expertly crafted afternoon tea in one of London’s most beautiful locations. The Garden Kitchen’s new menu, Inspired by Nature, takes British seasonal produce to new heights. With a spread curated by Benugo pastry chefs, this tea time experience offers a selection of sweet and savoury delights designed to make your taste buds sing.

Expect classic favourites with a creative twist, including:

  • Coronation chicken sandwiches – because no British tea is complete without it.
  • British cucumber and black pepper Crematta on white bread – simple, yet sophisticated.
  • Cherry tomato, red onion, Superstraccia and pesto tart – a fresh, flavour-packed bite.
  • Earl Grey scones with Cornish clotted cream & Tiptree strawberry jam – because some traditions should never be messed with.
  • Sweet pea & lemon cake – yes, sweet pea. It’s a thing.

And since this is the Natural History Museum, they couldn’t resist throwing in some themed treats. Dinosaurs may be extinct, but their footprints live on in macarons shaped like dino tracks, ammonite cookies, and an Earth pot dessert filled with raspberry and chocolate. Who knew afternoon tea could double as a science lesson?

An Afternoon Tea Setting Unlike Any Other

If you thought afternoon tea meant fancy wallpaper and chandeliers, think again. The Garden Kitchen sits within five acres of urban nature, overlooking the museum’s Evolution Garden. So while you sip your tea, you can admire Fern the dinosaur (the museum’s newest dino addition) and a stunning botanical timeline of life on Earth.

For those seeking an even more exclusive setting, The Anning Rooms offer a premium experience with panoramic views of the museum’s breathtaking architecture. Because nothing says “luxury” like sipping Prosecco with a perfect view of one of London’s most iconic buildings.

Make It a Mother’s Day to Remember

This one-day-only experience happens on Sunday, 30th March, between 12pm and 3pm. Prices start from £35 per person, or £40 with Prosecco—because treating Mum (or yourself) should always come with bubbles.
