In a new study conducted by computing accessories and tech retailer Currys, findings revealed that Brits expressed feeling unproductive in their current working environment, with 27% citing too many distractions as the primary reason for their lack of productivity.
The study revealed a concerning trend among London workers, shedding light on their ongoing struggle to uphold productivity within their workspaces.
A significant 27% of Londoners admitted to battling with numerous distractions throughout their working day. Meanwhile, 21% attributed their productivity challenges to noise disturbances, with 18% citing interruptions from colleagues as a hindrance.
Additionally, 17% said the lack of fresh air in their capital workspaces was a factor impacting their productivity, while 15% expressed discomfort with the office environment itself.
The survey also revealed that 74% of Londoners are unhappy with their current work situation. However, 38% said they feel more productive with a hybrid work model combining both remote and office-based work.
According to the Office for National Statistics, London residents reported the highest levels of hybrid working across Britain, with 4 in 10 workers both working from home and travelling to work. This highlights the growing importance of flexible work arrangements in London for productivity and job satisfaction.
This approach allows employees to structure their workday to suit individual preferences and circumstances. Plus, not having to commute every day saves a lot of time and can reduce the stress from dealing with the hustle and bustle of London transport.
Without fixed office hours, workers can work when they’re most productive, helping them to get more done. However, 62% of workers in London feel there is pressure to prove they are working more while working from home, likely due to negative perceptions on social media.
There are many factors that can influence productivity, but the working environment can have a direct influence on the outcome of any task at hand. The thing Londoners want most from a productive workspace is quiet, with 3 in 10 choosing this as something they require to get work done.
