During the Easter holidays, cooks of the future can enjoy a series of fun, inspiring and educational activities at London’s iconic Borough Market with three days of Market Explorers Garden activities.

The free-to-attend, drop-in, interactive event will take place daily between 11am and 3pm on Tuesday 2 – Thursday 4 April in the glass-fronted Market Hall, which will be transformed into a beautiful pop-up garden with trellis archways, white picket fencing and flowers for the occasion.

The Market Explorers Kitchen aims to encourage primary school children to learn where their food comes from through a ‘what’s in the box?’ game, seed planting and hands-on arts and crafts:

  • Guess what’s in the box – A fun game of identifying some of Borough Market’s fruit and vegetable produce through touch and feel alone. Think you know your onions? What about snake fruit?
  • Seed planting – Guided by Borough Market’s expert traders, all attendees have the choice of sowing their own fruit, vegetable, or herb seeds. Each child will take their seeds home in compostable pots to cultivate in their garden or window boxes.
  • Arts and crafts – Getting creative to personalise those potted seeds by decorating plant pot sticks.

Plus! – There’s a free So Chocolicious Easter lollipop for the first 100 children who attend the workshops each day.

The Market Explorers Garden events are drop-in, with no booking required.

Borough Market launched Market Explorers in 2020 as a virtual tool to help connect primary school children to the food they eat. Over the past four years, the initiative has evolved from online educational resources to in-Market events, with the aim to inspire young minds and to ignite a passion for cooking with the guidance of some of the Market’s famous traders. For more details about Borough Market’s Market Explorers series, visit boroughmarket.org.uk.

For those unable to make it to the Market this Easter, Beca Lyne-Pirkis has created an Easter Bourbon Nest recipe especially for Borough Market, for families to try at home.

The Market will be open during the Easter holidays at its usual times but will close for Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
