Feel The Mexican Sunshine This December: Christmas At Wahaca

Credit: DF TACOS

Forget the wintery British skies and experience some Mexican warmth in the run up to Christmas with the launch of Wahaca’s seasonal menu. With some brand new festive specials making their debut as well as a tastebud-tingling feasting menu that’s perfect for party season, there’s a generous helping of deliciousness to be found at Wahaca’s restaurants across the UK throughout December.

It’s turkey time! More specifically, the new Turkey Almond Mole Tacos (£7.50), inspired by a recipe tried by Wahaca co-founder Thomasina Miers while in Mérida, capital of Yucatán in Mexico, earlier this year. Roast, pulled turkey is served in corn tortillas with mole almendrado  – an aromatic, delicious Mexican sauce made from toasted almonds for nutty creaminess, achiote for a fruity tang and the dry, toasty heat of chile de árbol. It’s finished with sweet fried plantain and avocado puree to temper the heat, making this a totally delicious Christmas taco. And bringing some welcome seasonal warmth to the festive table, the Butternut Squash Tamal (£6.95) is a classic Mexican steamed corn dumpling filled with gently-spiced Riverford Organic squash ‘caponata’ served on a bed of creamy whipped ricotta.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without an abundance of fabulous food and Wahaca’s new Festive Feast menu serves up a grand selection of seasonal plates that are perfect for sharing. For groups of 2 or more, and priced at £35 per person, the menu is available now right up until Christmas Eve. Kick off your festive feast with Guacamole and Smoky Sonoran Hummus, both served with home-made tortilla chips, alongside Plantain & Chorizo Bites for the perfect appetisingly savoury but with a hint of sweetness. The main event fills the table with a dazzling array of Wahaca’s seasonal, sustainable small plates that’s just the ticket for groups to enjoy together.

The Turkey Almond Mole Tacos and Butternut Squash Tamal are joined by succulent, slow-cooked Beef Gringa Tacos served with grilled cheese and salsa fresca, Wahaca’s classic Sweet Potato & Feta Taquito with caramelised onion, salsas and chipotle mayo, the marvellously moreish Crispy Cauliflower Bites and a gorgeous plate of greenery in the form of Grilled Tenderstem Broccoli, tossed in garlic herb oil and sprinkled with toasted nuts and seeds. For an indulgent festive finish, the table will be treated to Christmas Churros – crisp Mexican doughnuts paired decadently with rich chocolate sauce and dulce de leche caramel. And wish your dining companions a Feliz Navidad by raising a glass of Gran Centenaro tequila or Cazcabel coffee tequila once your feasting’s finished. A vegetarian version of the Festive Feast menu is also available.

Finally, for a front row seat for London’s legendary fireworks, where better than New Year’s Eve at Wahaca Southbank? Perfectly positioned right by the river, visitors to the restaurant on the final night of the year will start their night with welcome drinks and delicious canapés before enjoying a generous Mexican feast of Wahaca’s delicious small plates, washed down with free-flowing drinks throughout the evening. Entertainment will be provided by a Mariachi band, DJ sets and, of course, an unrivalled view of London’s iconic midnight fireworks display.

Tickets are priced at £250 per person and are available https://www.designmynight.com/london/whats-on/food-drink/new-years-eve-on-the-southbank?t=tickets.
